Ramen & Japanese Fried Rice @ Taiko Japanese Cuisine

Despite its hidden location, Taiko Japanese Cuisine (Ramen Taiko) continues to do well. It was full house during our visit last weekend and the restaurant was filled with an air of conviviality. Because of that, service was slower than expected, but we didn’t mind the wait at all.

Taiko Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen

Impressed by their Nagasaki Champon we had previously, we decided to check out their other ramen options.
This time, I opted the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen @ RM27.90 which was served in a relatively rich and milky pork bone broth. Compared to the other established ramen chains in town, the flavor is not as intense but still hits the spot.

Taiko Salmon Kabuto Ramen

SL’s choice was the Salmon Kabuto Ramen @ RM24.90. Instead of chashu, it was topped with a meaty deep fried salmon head infusing the broth with a sweet seafood taste. Not recommended for those who hate picking out bones of fish though.

Taiko Seafood Fried Rice

If you like Japanese fried rice I’d suggest you to order one here. We picked the Kaisen Chahan (seafood fried rice) @ RM14.90 and it was one of the best Japanese fried rice we had in KL.
The ‘wok hei’ is strong, the rice grains are distinct, moist yet not mushy and full of flavor. This is probably just second to Gyukingu‘s.

Taiko Japanese restaurant set lunch menu

Ramen wise, I think Nagasaki Champon will remain as our favorite here. But we are definitely pleased to know that Taiko makes a mean Japanese rice as well. Other dishes we’d recommend include gyoza, Buta Kakuni, sashimi and sushi as well.
Their set lunches are priced from RM18.90 onward and is served with a complimentary side dish like mixed sushi, gyoza and saba. They are a steal considering the serving size, quality of food and location.
